Timothy M. Fulghum, PhD, is a Principal Scientist in the Advanced Surgery Business Unit at Baxter Healthcare Corporation. Dr. Fulghum is a graduate of the University of Houston with a Doctorate in Organic Chemistry. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry and graduated with honors from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Dr. Fulghum has been with Baxter Healthcare Corporation since 2007, where he started in Corporate Innovation. For the last 10 years, he has been a part of the Advanced Surgery Research and Development organization. His focus has been on synthetic sealants and adhesion reduction products from ideation through product launch with sustained support.

Dr. Fulghum has been working on antifouling surfaces and adhesion prevention research and product innovation throughout the last decade. He has multiple patents and has gained expertise in both marketed products and products in development. Innovation driven through surgeon feedback has been a critical part of his research throughout the last few years.

According to Dr. Fulghum, there is a great unmet need in the adhesion prevention space. While there are great products available, they are underutilized and underappreciated. He believes that increased education and understanding regarding adhesions and products that can be utilized to reduce them, can have a lasting impact on the overall health of all surgical patients.
